Question:

Lasy year I had a part time administrator-type job that I thought was off the books. I got paid in cash sometimes and other times by check. Now, months after the job's been over the boss has asked for my SS#. I have a SS but the card says "Not eligible for employment."

I dont know what to do. Do I give her my SS#? Can I get in trouble for this?

*nervous* Any advice would be amazing. Thanks.

I have card that says "not valid for employment" too. I used to work at a Little Caesars and I used to do taxes with my numbers. Just don't show them the actual card and you should be fine. But you know, if the job has been over for months then you can tell them to go to hell. If they payed you in cash without asking for your social in the first place then it seems like a shady business, who knows what they want with your social now, they maybe even be cooking the books. If I were you I would not give them anything.

the job was for an after school program that works in conjunction with the board of ed. That's why I'm scared, since the board of ed is part of the state, and government etc. The job ended in June and I'm assuming they're taking care of their taxes now and that's why they want my #.

I guess I should try to avoid the calls and emails they keep sending me?

Give him that SSN, the IRS doesn't care either way (they just want their money) and E-verify only checks if the name, ssn and dob match.

ITINs start with a 9, unless the boss is retarded he'll notice.
