The Mexican passport used to be all high tech and biometric, computer scanned.
At least this is how it was when I got mine 13 years ago in Mexico.

I go to the Mexican Consul and they give me something that looks cheap as hell. Not even the picture is digital. The just cover it with plastic and that is it. I was so pissed off when I paid 100 and something dollars and they gave me that shit!

Did anyone have a similar experience?

The Mexican passport is not yet bio metric. However, I know what you are referring to; we had some of my mom's nieces visit from Mexico and they showed me their passports. It was as if the photograph was enlarged and part of the booklet inner cover, what seemed cool was that each of the 32 booklet pages had the outline of each of the Mexican states.

I have a Mexican passport from my consulate and it doesn't look that impressive.... It is like the one you are referring to, nothing impressive. I paid seventy something for it, I only got it for 3 years. I guess that the consulates still have not cough up technologically to the passports they issue in Mexico.

If its a recent expiration, just the passport itself.
