I am looking for a job right now on CL after graduating from a UC.

I have an ITIN and what are the steps to get a job?

I read some threads on jobs and they said work as an individual contractor to avoid SS filing then get an EIN and I-9 ????

Can someone explain in detail after getting a job offer?????

yea. Being an independent contractor means you are self-employed. You have to look for contracts, lets say you walk up to a shop and offer to revamp their website or their check out system, marketing consulting, etc and they pay you, they are supposed to give you a 1099-misc if you make more than $600 which you'll use to prepare your taxes. An ITIN is solely to report taxes and is not a SSN that allows you to work. Although i've seen some W2 with an ITIN instead of a SSN I don't know how employers are able to send a W4 to the IRS with that information.

So which one is better? getting paid in cash or 1099 and report tax in terms of future. The future means the getting the green card. Which one is less illegal? it's a weird question...

i think you are misunderstanding us, if you get paid with a 1099-misc is as though you are getting paid in cash, it doesn't matter if you get paid in personal checks, the point is that there is no FICA, SS, or medicare tax taken out. In this case you will have to pay self employment tax in a schedule C at the end of the year.
