I think in most states YES. But check with your state DMV what they require. IF they accept only the Employment Authorization Card and a Social Security Number, then YES!!

I checked in NJ. YES! They have a 6 point system and having a work permit has 3 points. A school ID (i have a college id) counts as 2 and a bank statement counts as 1 .
But yea, check with your state.

Does being accepted for a work visa give you "legal presence"?

My state uses that term and I'm not sure if it's referring to green card holders and citizens

I live in Connecticut and we are required to show at least one form of identification from this list:

PRIMARY LIST
• US Birth Certificate or Registration of Birth (Government Issued; Hospital issued are not acceptable)
• US Passport or Passport Card
• Foreign Passport w/ a U.S. Visa and I-94 (See Legal Presence for additional requirements)
• Certificate of Naturalization
• Certificate of Citizenship
• Permanent Resident Card
• Consular Report of Birth Abroad

I don't think any dreamers living in CT will be able to apply. Hopefully they will change these requirements.

Edit: Never mind we can apply, it says on the primary list: (See Legal Presence for additional requirements). Under that list there is an employment authorization card that we can show.

Thing that sucks about NJ is if you are 21 and over (first time driver) you have to practice driving on a 'examination permit' for at least 3 months. Most other states have very little practice requirement. Oh well, still better than not being able to get it.

Anyone here in Texas know if we'll be able to get a driver's license with a work permit?

Texas, definitely yes.

From the TxDPS:

Requirements for all Applicants
All first time applicants for a Texas driver license must:

1. Apply in person at a Texas driver license office. - Getyoass out of that couch
2. Present documents that verify your identity. - Employment Authorization card, which is what we'll get.
3. Present documents that verify you are a U.S. citizen or have lawful presence. All information on each document must match. Additional documentation may be required to verify conflicting information, incomplete names, and date of birth.- Same as above
4. Present proof of Social Security Number. If you do not have a Social Security Number, you must complete a Social Security Affidavit form available at the driver license office.- We will have a SSN
5. Present proof of your Texas residency. - College or HS Transcript, or
6. Present proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance on all vehicles you own. - Buy insurance
7. Complete the application for driver license or identification card (PDF). You may type your information on the form, print it, and bring it with you to the office. If you don’t have a printer, the form is also available at the office. - You can do this
8. Consent to be photographed, fingerprinted, and provide your signature at the time of application.
9. Pass the written, driving, and vision examinations. (Read more about foreign language examinations.) - Agree
10. Pay the required fee with a credit card, cash, money order, or a non-temporary check. - Like 30 bucks or less
11. Provide a vehicle for the driving exam and present current liability insurance, Texas vehicle registration, and inspection for the vehicle. - Buy a 2012 Challenger
