Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign said he misstated his views on immigration in an interview published Friday, when he appeared to suggest that higher education and military service were pathways to legal status in the U.S. for young illegal immigrants. As recently as last week at a conference of Latino elected officials, Romney has named military service, but not education, as a pathway.

In the interview published Friday with the conservative publication and website Newsmax, Romney appeared to go further, either suggesting that higher education should accompany military service or be an alternative to military service for young people seeking legal status.
"For those that are here as the children of those that came here illegally, I want to make sure they have a permanent answer to what their status will be," he said. "And I've indicated in my view that those who serve in the military and have advanced degrees would certainly qualify for that kind of permanence."

He has no clue what he thinks. He's right though. It can't be a policy shift if you have no policy to begin with.

“The governor was referring to his long held position that young illegal immigrants brought here as children who serve in the military should be able to obtain legal permanent residence and that we should staple a green card to the diploma of every eligible student visa holder who graduates from one of our universities with an advanced degree in math, science, or engineering,” Williams said. “He simply misspoke in this interview.” --

Romney also said that he would grant green cards to those who earn advanced degrees, but only those who studied in the U.S. legally with a visa.
The former Massachusetts governor has said he would veto the DREAM Act, which would give both categories of minors a special pathway to citizenship.
Mitt Romney can go home. Also kind of unfair that people with degrees in humanities/liberal arts and business would not qualify under "Romney's plan." He doesn't even know what to say anymore, and he can't win. Repub extremists won't vote for him if he's even a little PRO-CIR, and he's too anti-CIR for Democrats. Immigration is just not something he should even open his mouth about.

No one would qualify. Not even people with PhD in mathematics or Physics. This guy is a fucking joke.

His speech after the court's decision was so full of shit. Mr. Romney, you are the one who drafted Obamacare!!!

Romney is such a hypocrite, he wants us to join the military to adjust our status while he actively avoided the draft during the Vietnam war. He'd probably make us serve 10 years as well.
