Do you think a passport that expired a year ago would be OK?

I have a passport that i had renewed 2 years ago and it expired in february of 2011. My country's embassy has this process where if you want to renew your passport, you have to find 2 green card holders with valid passports from your country. Now if you dont know anyone, you're essentially screwed because you cannot just go and ask random people for their passport and green card copies and I have no friends or family members that I can think of that have a green card with a VALID passport. So its really tough for me to renew it.

So do you think an expired passport should be okay?

Yes, we had the same issue with my mom's passport. The Indian embassy is retarded as hell. They only renew her passport for like a year or something like that due to this status. She had to be driven like 45 minutes to our friends place (Both green card holders from India) so she can get the document notarized. Shit took only about 30 seconds. Walked in the bank and out. What country you from? You seriously can't find two people with GC? I'm sure you are close to your community. It's pretty much one form that you have to fill out with your and the two GC holders signature and notarized with all you present at the time. As for your question, I'm really not sure if that passport will be okay. Maybe someone else may be able to answer your question. Do you have a birth certificate to prove who you are?

All I know is when I went for my Biometrics is that I had to bring valid government issued ID and I don't think an expired passport would meet those requirements.

"Check out this post by txgirl in the thread "Possible catch-22 problem?" (post #9):http://dreamact.info/forum/showthread.php?t=28235

"We have sent some clients to get their biometrics with either 2 expired ID's from their native contry and sometimes if they came in as a child we send them with expired passport and current school ID and they have been able to get the biometrics done."

If seems like it's possible that an expired passport is acceptable."

Hey, I'm from India, too. I just got my passport sent for renewal like a couple days ago. I think my dad said it'll be renewed for 10 years or something. Shit's expensive as hell already (i think it cost us 3k already for this).

Wow! Thanks! So I don't need to worry much then because I also have other forms of identifications as well!

I think you have to pay around $46 USD to renew your passport with the Indian embassy. I think you just got scammed bro.

^ Possibly. Well i was sort of a separate case since I'm not in India and I'm here as an EWI. The $46 fee only applies to people here legally.

No thats not true. Regardless of if you are in the country legally or illegally, they make you pay $46 for 36 pg booklet and like $60 for a bigger booklet. I have renewed my passport 2 times and paid the same fee. I am undocumented so yea. But now those people that had GC's are now citizens and I can't find anyone else. I suggest you take some sort of action towards the person that renewed your passport.

Unless of course you paid this person 3k for his services of renewing your passport; in that case you paid way too much for something you could have applied for yourself.

What is EWI? I am almost positive it shouldnt be that costly even if its a matter of status.

^ Well this is a slap in the face. This is how it's always been when my family and relatives are renewing their passports. I'll be dropping some details to my dad on this.
