It takes a while to find a job. I don't want to wait around until I get an EAD since I'm not sure how I will fare in the job market (NOPE, no STEM degree ). I was thinking once I submit my application or once I get the biometrics confirmation.

My resume does look good, but I had to leave my job back in January because I had to find a way to make money. I was working for free for the last two years. Good experience, but money was a problem for me. My boss knew about my situation so I'm sure I can extend my job resume for the "present" so that I have a better shot.

Anyway, what is your timeline on things? I know we probably won't know for sure until we get our EADs on yadda yadda yadda date, but it takes about 2-3 months to find a job depending on factors.

Once I receive the EAD I feel would be the best option. Will be looking at Accounting firms near my home. The city I live in is the hub for financial services so I'm sure I can find something.

Already did. I'm looking for internships and telling them I'm willing to work for free until my work permit arrives.

No STEM degree either, or even accounting. Just a regular ol' business degree but I've had an internship. I'm using my school's job search engine to look, although most jobs require 1 year of experience +. I've only had about 10 months.

Nice! Are you in NYC?

I'm not waiting until the EAD though. I know some people take months to find a job.

That might be dicey. But that is good if you have the patience! I'm looking for a FT job and I'm going to try negotiate salary, lol. Sorry, been broke for too long and I'm not trying to work for free or beg for some opportunity anymore. I'm 26 and did that all my life.

Yay! You're just like me

I'm going to start my business up in the meantime while job searching. I do have work experience and I'm going to go full steam ahead with my school's network at the end of August. Most do recruiting in September/October so I'm hoping I can find something for January (in case it takes 4+ months for the EAD to process).

Are you looking for jobs in state or are you trying to branch out? At this point, I'm willing to work anywhere... even AZ, lol

Well, in my area (computer science), you cannot work and expect to get paid if you have little experience. So it is a privilege if a company out there can accommodate an intern, even for no pay. I think I found one such company, wish me luck on my interview Monday! You know what they say - if you wouldn't do it for free, you're probably not in the right field. And I know you didn't ask me, but I'm in NYC.

I got a small internship right now, just for a month, and getting a stipend. So maybe if I do good I might be able to get a job there, hopefully.

I'm planning on working as a pharm tech so I need to wait until I get my EAD and SSN to take the exam and what not.

I've had a job for the past few years in my field, thank goodness. Not full time, but stable, and enough to pay the bills -- getting paid as an independent contractor by the company.

One thing I hadn't thought about until now is what you guys are saying: internships. As a matter of fact, seeing you guys talk about it now, I'm encouraged to find an internship for the rest of the summer, at least.

An unpaid one, that is, until we have our EADs - something to add to my résumé.

Thank you!
