Or have any tips? I'm not Hispanic, btw. I'm intermediate with spanish, though. Resources are a lot easier to come by for French and Spanish. Not so for Portuguese.

I would like to learn Portuguese and French in the next year or so.

I was born on the Azorean islands of Portugal. Fluent in Portuguese. Brazilian v. European Portuguese is the equivalent of US v. UK English. Very similar, but the accent can be difficult at times.

I'd get killed for saying this by European Portuguese, but if you are going to learn Portuguese, learn the Brazilian style. It will have more weight in the future.

That's my goal! I just had a convo last night who told me about the opportunities in Brazil. I'm definitely interested.

Are there any books you can recommend for learning Portuguese? There doesn't seem to be a lot out there.

LOL, I know, I know! I just need books or resources in order to learn . That's the point of the thread. I even specified in the title that I'm looking for Brazilian Portuguese.

I don't know what is good out there. There's not a lot out there for Portuguese. The podcasts are too advanced. I use podcasts for Spanish and I'm intermediate.

I speak Portuguese, but the Portugal version!

I still have no problem talking to Brazilians, though, and making friends with them.

It's a problem (a problem, tongue-in-cheek) with American friends who are interested in Brazil, and want to learn some Portuguese. I can't quite help them because the pronunciations between the two countries are indeed very different -- more different that what you find in the standards of Spain and Latin American countries for Spanish, for example.

Rosetta Stone has a Brazilian Portuguese edition. I've learned Italian and am currently learning MSA Arabic through Rosetta Stone.

I did in college i took three semesters i learned alot but since I havent practiced in a long time im forgetting alot. And the textbook we used was Ponto de Encontro it comes in both brazilian and the european version. Have fun I love the language! It helps alot to watch movies/shows/music in the language to get your ear used to the accent and the language.
