Just wondering how many of you guys live by yourself or away from family, and how it was...

I'm asking cus I"m moving to SF in 2 weeks for school! I'm going to SFSU! I'm so happy but sad and scared too...

At first, I was happy that I'm finally moving away... I live about 3 and half hr drive from SF. Funny thing is that I been stuck in a small city since birth... I was born in a small city and raised there when I was in Korea. When I came here, here I come. a tiny town in nowhere lol. I like it here cuz I'm sure that If went to a big city, I'd be speaking English with funny Asian accent lol.

Now, the time is flying by and only 2weeks left... Idk about you guys, but for our family, we are very attached to each others, and being undocumented played a major role in there lol.

Living alone seems very difficult... emotionally and financially...

How was your experience??

we were pretty much the opposite. closer now, sister and parents live abroad. living alone can be difficult but try to immerse yourself in studies, get to know different people. it'll be hard in some ways to adjust, but call home so that you can touch base. my parents and i went about 3 years without speaking. but yeah, i went to a school that had dorms in which you could live in 365 days a year. so i've lived alone or with roommates for the past 9 years.

just stay on top of your shit. like with or without your family. call home when you miss them. ask for support when you need it. study, make conversations with people, get to know the neighborhood, do your laundry! let your interests guide you. don't worry, i had relationship skills of a hermit crab. first week was super uncomfortable for me for many reasons. and even i found my people. if theres an awkward moment, push past it. don't jive with a person? it's a big campus, large city, there are more! stay open but don't get too close to the crazies and you'll be fine :P

oh, i'm korean too. nyc. lots of accents and people from everywhere. lots of culture. lots of food, art, etc. keep busy!
