Is it true that if you are approved for deferred action, you can't get a green card?

I was talking to someone today who has a family member that is eligible for Deferred Action. She told me that she spoke to a lawyer about the qualifications, and that lawyer mentioned that if you apply for Deferred Action, you will not be able to get a green card if you currently are granted deferred action. So if you are to receive your EAD and SSN and all that through deferred action, you cannot adjust your status through marriage or any other sponsorship. Essentially, that is what she told me that the lawyer told her.

Ia that true? I think tt isn't true but I just want to know if anyone has heard something similar to that...

It just seems weird to me the whole concept that you can't adjust your status through marriage or any other sponsorship process if you are granted deferred action. So I think it's total bullshit and the lady is in line to get scammed for tons of money for a simple application, that is, if she decides to go through with it after hearing bullshit from a lawyer.

That is the biggest lie in the world. This is why I keep trashing lawyers.

Lol yea, that's what I thought. I was like, "uhhh when you apply for a green card, it's called adjustment of status...so i dont think it matters what status you have as long as you're eligible to apply for a green card according to its guidelines"

"NO! That's what the lawyer said!"

"-_____- Well, don't listen to him"

"You better do your research"

At this point, I walked away lol.

I did say something along those lines. Engineers do not feed from the ignorance of others though. So it is different.

I have a mixed feeling about engineers.

Correct me if I am wrong but to adjust status while here in the US you need to have a petition that was under 245i. Any other you have to show extreme hardship or you have to go back to your country to adjust.
Since you heard it from a friend, maybe she heard it wrong or she misunderstood what the lawyer said.
