Yeah. Pro-tip: don't even bother with the comments on any of these articles. You can predict down to a T what they're going to say each and everytime. Better to skip them.

Anybody know about Nevada? I asked the DMV through an email and they had no idea what an EAD was.

You can get a DL from NY with an EAD and a SSN. Look at their DMV site.

To apply for an original Nevada Instruction Permit, you must:
  1. Provide acceptable proof of your identity.
  2. Be a resident of Nevada and provide a Nevada street address.
  3. Present any existing U.S. license, instruction permit or ID card.
  4. Apply in person at a DMV office (we do not make appointments).
  5. Complete a Driver License Application (DMV 002).
  6. Pay the required licensing and testing fees.
  7. Pass the vision and knowledge tests. See Driver License Testing.
  8. Have your picture taken.

Here is the list of acceptable documents to prove identity:
  1. Certified U.S. Issued Birth Certificate or Certified Abstract (hospital copies are not accepted)
  2. U.S. Passport (valid or expired less than one year)
  3. U.S. Military Identification or DD-214 Report of Separation
  4. Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization
  5. Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood
  6. Consular Report of Birth Abroad
  7. Permanent or Temporary Resident Card
  8. Resident Alien Card or I-551 Receipt
  9. Valid Foreign Passport stamped “Processed for I-551”
  10. Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) with Visa or Passport
  11. Permit to Reenter the U.S.
  12. Refugee Travel Documents

We cannot get any of the items above. Maybe if you get advance parole, then you might be able to use that as a proof of idenity under "Refugee Travel Documents." I am not sure if that would work.

Or you can just go to California, and get a license from there. Much easier since it looks like they don't even require proof of residence. You just need an EAD and SSN.

As far as I know some states considers I-797 receipt notice(not approval notice) at the DMV. I know Arizona does! Not sure what they will do now that Jan B. wants to deny DL for DACA beneficiaries. I-797 receipt notices are all the same - for all types of petitions. How will they distinguish which I-797s are relates to DACA?

California (and most of the other states) only accepts approval notices. So for the CA DACA beneficiaries, no DL until the final approval.
