has anyone asked USCIS hotline if walk-in biometrics is acceptable? it seems like there are some great debates regarding pros/cons of walk-in biometrics.

i haven't seen a clear answer to this so just wondering....

What's wrong with waiting for your appointment. Unless you have an absolute valid excuse. Go ahead and call them and make further arrangements.

Ur forms are already in USCIS and they'll get to them when they get to them. Going earlier is just gonna mess up their system. DACA applicants are not the only ones waiting for their biometrics appointments.

Calling USCIS will not be useful. They will just tell you that it all depends on the ASC you are supposed to go to. USCIS has given the responsibility of taking fingerprints and pictures to local support centers in order to increase efficiency and to allow people to be able to get to a place without travelling to a new city.

The specific rules of whether walk-in or not is ASC location dependent. Some places allow walk-ins, others don't. Some places only take walk-ins on certains days or at certains times. You will have to make a trip to your ASC to find out what their policy is.

Walk-in's will not "mess" or help your process. Your process will just proceed as is. Even if you get your biometrics done early, your case worker has their own timeline on when they will work on your case. The 60 - 90 days from the time you turn in your application is the only consistent thing told and it is what you will hear when you call USCIS and from people who have had to deal with USCIS. Now the only difference is whether 60-90 days is just for 821D approval or for 821D approval + I-765 approval. No one knows this answer, but we will find out the timeline for us when we see people reporting what they receive.

There's nothing wrong with waiting for my appointment....I'm not here to say that I intended to do a walk-in. It's just out of curiosity that I posed this question. It's just interesting to me that some people are trying to make a speedier process by doing a walk-in on biometrics.

I did notice that the ASC Appointment Notice (Biometrics Letter) explcitly has a section for rescheduling an appointment if the applicant needs to reschedule their appointment. If you request that they reschedule your appointment, you will be sent a new notice. I didn't see anything stating that people should just do walk-ins if they couldn't make their appointments or any associated pros and cons of doing walk-ins....

Just do a quick google search for your center and determine the consensus. Houston's ASCs are walk-in friendly according to all online discussions. When I went there today it was pretty much empty, most of the people who were there must have been relatives of those having their biometric testing performed because it took me less than 5 minutes from the moment I walked in to start having my fingerprints taken.

I second goobie_pls. The South Houston ASC will allow walk-ins after 2 pm Mon-Fri. I was actually the first DACA applicant to get my fingerprints there. The guy at the front desk said so, and I watched the lady taking my prints struggle to find the category to click on her computer as it was new to her. Now all others who go there will be set

"I feel like I deserve this more than my fellow DREAMers and I would like to get my EAD first"

**Disregard if you have an actual legitimate reason.
