Okay, first off I do not know that much about this law at least compared to everyone here. I hired a good lawyer and trust them. But my question might be dumb

Okay so deferred action means we wont get deported and the work permit is separate right? Well what if we don't plan on working but want the ssn to use for other things? Credit card, loans, proper ID. I am lucky enough to currently have my boyfriend pay all my expenses and would likely use the EAD only for required internships for college credit.

The main reason I applied was to come out of the shadows and be less afraid about deportation not as concerned about money at least for the time being. I hope ((if I get approved for everything)) then I will be able to renew my EAD despite not using it for work.

All that being said, I like the option of being able to work ((In case of emergency))and technically my parents/boyfriend are paying for most of everything but I want citizenship more than anything and not worry about being DEPORTED. I did ask my lawyer this and she said I could still apply for an EAD

Sorry, but no way around it. You must apply for it if you want defered action. No wonder so many have any idea of how it works.

If something were to happen to your boyfriend you'd have to work and applying later would take you months to get approved since people will start seeing that previous applicants are getting their EADs. You can't apply for an SSN without form i-766 (EAD).

Good point. The main reason I applied is I hope this eventually gets to be some sort of path to citizenship. Also I know what its like to need a ssn to get by. I just by luck found someone willing to let me focus 100% on school. I am sure most people would take that opportunity as well then work your butt off once you get your degree. Also I know there is people who do both. Hats off to them but I am no genius.

This is going to sound mean but girl! You need to learn how to become independent!!!! It doesnt matter if your bf and family support you but one day ONE DAY you will be alone with only yourselve to rely on. Get some job experience. What are you going to college for? Do you plan on living your life depending on others? I understand that at this moment you feel comofrtable since you are being taken care of but think about your future. And no if you apply for the deferral you MUST apply for the work permit too.

Why wouldnt you work? Even if someone is taking care of your expenses for now Im sure he would appreciate the help. Unless he s one of those types that doesnt want you working.

Okay thanks everyone for answering my question. As for why I don't plan on working, yes he is the sort of person who wants me to finish school first.
