I am just coming back from the office. I waited and I guess did the 'interview'. The guy didn't seem to know anything about the c33, he kept asking why I am getting my work authorization so late if I had been here since 2003. Then, he made the copy, and he gave me a printout of a 'receipt' with a reference number. Said that since this is a new process, the DHS has to verify and only then will I get something issued under my name. Said it could take up to 4 weeks. All of the information that I expected to hear. But then, heeding NotaPro's advice, I asked him to do a SAVE query, but he said that he can't do it with a new process like this, and just asked me to wait. Anyways, to keep things short, here's what the paper that he game me said. It was stamped by him too, by the way, and came with a reference number as mentioned above:

"This is to acknowledge that you applied for SSN on September 24, 2012.

Before we can issue a SSN, we must verify the documents you gave us to show your Alien status with the Federal, State, or local office in the US that issued the documents, which may take up to four weeks.

If you are not a US citizen and you are applying for a SSN to work, you may begin to work if you are eligible.

blah blah blah."

Anyone else get that? Also, can we use that to apply for a DL in CA?

How did he know that you have been in the country since 2003?

He wanted to see my passport to verify my identity. He also asked me to show my visa because I guess you can't put c33 as an option. That's when he asked me that question. He was unsure how to file it at first, it seemed like, but then he gave me the whole spill. He also made a copy of all the IDs I gave him and put it with the other files from other people.

That's strange. They didnt ask me any questions. They just took my application, photo copied all my IDs and gave me a receipt with a REF#.

besides the questioning, same process for me. Did they give you the same spill? 4 weeks and what not? Also, I am guessing you are in NY. Any chance you might try to go to the DMV with the receipt and apply?

Yeah, it's all stated in the receipt. I am in NY but I'll wait for my SSN before I head to the DMV.

I already have an SSN, but if people working in the offices seriously dont know what DACA is, I would probably take a printout of that document released about DACA on the ssa website and show them.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I don't know, I am sure one of the supervisors will know what to do. But, to play devil's advocate, the guy who was interviewing me was the local field manager...
