That was a pretty long biometric appointment compared to others.

I had my biometric appoinment today at the ASC in Elizabeth City, NJ.

I walked in the fairly crowded support center to be greeted by a guard that made sure I turned my phone off. She gave me a form tofill out, basic info some other people have mentioned. I filled it out and she pointed me to a recptionist who then had to verify my identity. I waited in line for about 15 minutes then walked up to the receptoinist and handed her my receipt, form, and my expired passport. She looked at my name and was about to stam my paper and give me a number to wait in line and get my biometrics but she heaitated and asked me for another id. I showed her my college id and she nodded her head. Then I showed her a community center card with my name on it and she said sorry you're going to have to speak with the manager. She placed a post it note on my appointment notice that read "EXPIRED". I felt embarassed because I was the only one that was pointed to go wait outside the managers office to talk to her while everyone else went straight to their seat and waited for their number to be called. A huge line of people watched me as I walked over to the seats outside the managers office. They kinda watched like the kids in your class watch you when you come back from the bathroom.

I sat down outside the managers office for about 5 minutes until she yelled "NEXT CUSTOMER PLEASE!!" I walked in and greeted her with a smile and handed her my appointment letter with a notice. She opened up my passport to find my other 2 IDs I gave to the receptionist and she receieved a call from someone. Her phon was on the far end of the L shaped desk she was at so she threw my passport on the desk and picked up the call and spoke with a man who had a strong spanish accent in his english. She swung her chair back to where I waited and watched her with my best innocent face. She then began to say "Just so you know we're making exceptions of applicants of Deferred Action and letting them go with expired passports. Normally we don't allow it." I decided to make small talk with her and said "Oh, I'm sorry I was unaware and had only this form of government identification. If I told you the process of renewal for an indian passport you would laugh at it."

She smiled, signed the papers and said "I confirmed your identity. Just take this back to the receptionist and go straight in front of the line. She will give you a number and you can go ahead and get your biometric done. Have a nice day."

I thanked her sincerely and walked back to the receptionist. She took my papers, placed a red stamp on it and gave me a number and told me to wait to be called.

The current number running was about 27 and I remember when I was going to be initially given a number I was going to be given 54. But I went back and was given a higher number. So I waited for about a half an hour and was finally called up to get my prints done. The man cleaned my fingers and put on gloves and told me to relax. I commented and told him that this is pretty cool and he started complaining about the old process involving ink and how he'd have ink on his clothes. We talked as he cautiously scanned my fingers and took my picture. He then told me to fill out a customer survey and I thanked him and left the center.

Was in and out within an hour and 15 minutes.

Damn they are strict about confirming identity. At my center the receptionist handed me the form to fill after I showed him my letter and passport and then he stamped my letter. He didn't make a big deal and didn't care that I didn't go on my appointment. The lady that did my prints didn't even look at my passport and also didn't care if I had an appointment . On the contrary the receptionist told me that I should have come a day before when they were vacant. Lol

It shouldn't be surprising concerning the ID issue as it is post 9/11 and during the back forth Q&A's many mentioned the issue of ID being a problem for the benefit which had to be addressed somehow.

It should be interesting however at a later date if a Dreamer does decide to Adjust status and have only expired documentation and how that would work.

By then we should have Social Security Numbers and an EAD correct? I'm assuming that when we adjust status, it will be through the Dream Act (if it is passed). I'm also assuming that we will all be filing for renewals for DACA if Dream Act isn't passed within those 2 years, so an expired document shouldn't be a problem.

Well the process has been going more smoothly than anyone would have expected, but what I meant were those who are applicable for DACA but may not have applied and still have issues gaining ID.Those approved with DACA should have no issues with future adjustment with regards to issues concerning ID since they should be able to get State ID or a DL.

Aaah ok. Yea in that case you definitely need valid government issued IDs. I have family members who went through Green Card Processes and they needed valid passports for applications for permanent residency.
