"The people who have received the special visa that the president has put in place, which is a two-year visa, should expect that the visa would continue to be valid. I'm not going to take something that they've purchased," Romney said. "Before those visas have expired we will have the full immigration reform plan that I've proposed."

Doesn't mean much given Romney's prominent to flip flop, but it's a start. I guess he is suddenly getting desperate for Latino support given that he made no mention of this during his Univision debate.

I do think that even with the remote chance of him winning, he wouldn't go through the hassle of messing with the applicants. He would probably just not allow renewals after the 2 year period had elapsed.

Regardless Obama '12. Looking forward to the debates and to see if there's any mention of immigration.

It's not a visa. Even the notice of acceptance letters say that it's not a visa. Romney misspoke.

Visa? Mega facepalm.

I expected him to do this. He does not say yes or no on DACA. He assumes that he will get something done immediately if he gets elected. With his ideas on immigration reform (if he even has any), I am pretty certain that Democrats would become obstructionists. Or, would they? . . .

I'm paraphrasing but in the article, Romney said something along the lines of "I am not going to take away something they've already paid for". Fine, but then what happens when the permit's 2 year duration expires? I think he's left himself some wriggle room there for not renewing the permits after 2 years.

The visa thing was a gaffe, and his comment kinda shows him as a desperate flip-flopper, but this answer is better than any he has previously given regarding DACA. Lie or not, having his statement be "I am not going to take away something they've already paid for" is better than I will put a long term solution that will supercede DACA. Hoping for him to say he supports DACA and that he will ensure the program stays in place during his presidency is hoping for too much.

A comment like this obviously will piss off immigration hardliners, which in turn makes my day.

Very good observation. Romney, like most politicians, pisses me off because he can be so DECEITFUL with his rhetoric; he is very manipulative. For instance, when the left condemns Romney for saying that SB 1070 should be the model for the US, he defends himself by stating that he was alluding to one element of the bill: e-verify. Well numbskull, if you were referring to that one element of the bill, why didn't you specify when you made that declaration.
