I asked this a few weeks ago but didnt get a clear answer.

Once you have your SSN, when an employer checks it out, do they see work history (in our case, it would be blank), is it for a background check, do they know you just got it? What exactly does it show them?

For the EAD, its just showing them you have permission to work, its not something they look up?

I think when they look it up it just shows that you are allowed to work under DHS authorization. As for the EAD, I read somewhere that you must carry it with you at all times.

Yea it only shows whether your SSN is eligible to work or not. It does not show any other information. If your employer wants a criminal record, you will have to do a live scan I believe.

An SSN serves two purposes:

1. To identify you.

2. To Identify you to the IRS.

I"m not sure what industry youre in or want to get into but from what I know they are only checking that you can work legally and that the information that you put in your application such as ssn and ead matches and it legal. I was able to work my with just my college id and ss card.

i think they use your SSN for tax purposes too.. for example if youre an employer you need to report to the IRS who you are paying to... im not really sure so dont take my word
