When we travel within the USA and are stopped by an immigration official what do we say so that we are not deported? Do we just show them our work permit card? I don’t have my California identification yet since I don’t have a social security yet. Do we carry our deferred action approval letter with us?

I want to travel from San Diego to Los Angeles via Amtrak, but I am worried about what I am supposed to say if they ask me for my immigration status.

You just need your EAD.

It says "C 33" on it. That means you were approved for DACA.

It seems like your license should be sufficient. I was never really one to carry around my work permit when it was valid(four years ago), if anything, you could make a copy of it. Its just a very sensitive document. But then again i guess i dont really look like a "foreigner" to be stopped and asked for an immigration document. Go figure. I guess to each his own

Well, they will need to verify your legal status. I doubt they will accept the license by itself. Of course, you don't need to carry your EAD with you everyday, just when you are going to be traveling and know you will come in contact with BP.

I figured in order to even have your license, you need to have had a verifiable status in the first place. That was my logic. But like i said, i've never had that problem of being stopped, i look like your average "African American". So again, to each his own. :0)

And i'm in Ga. lol, no border patrol. Maybe i'm not the best person to answer.

Yeah, it should be enough to verify status, but BP isn't one to play nice, they will want to see something else since a license doesn't state your immigration status.

This doesn't make sense. Your license should be more than enough. When a US citizen travels domestically, he or she doesn't carry their passport to prove their "legal status"

Of course not, that is why they are asked if they are U.S. Citizens. When they say "Yes" they are on their way, they have nothing to prove.

You are not a U.S. Citizen are you? You would not say yes, you would say no, then you would have to prove that you are legally allowed to be here in the U.S. and they might not accept just a Driver's License.

If someone comes on a 6 month Visitors Visa, they can get a state issued ID, but just because their VISA is still valid, it doesn't mean their I-94 is also. So you can't just prove that you are here legally with the ID or VISA alone, you would need the I-94, just like we would need our EAD.
