Here is the story. Spent the morning waiting for the letter of denial from SSA office. Some guys had mentioned that all they needed was the I-797C (approval) with the letter denial from the SSA office and they got their license. Well I get to the DMV and the guy helping me in starts flipping through a bulletin the state just sent out. As of 10/1/12 you must have your I-766 or EAD in order to get your license. I have not received my EAD, but I should get it today or tomorrow. Just thought I would let some people know so they do not waste their time.

what i dont get is...

how did you even get letter of DENIAL from SSA when your application is in PROCESS?

I went to SSA in NY and they said they can't give me a letter because my SSN is not being denied.

I have my learning permit already btw.. through Social security card that I received last week

I live in Florida.
There was no way to get a license with an i797c....with or without any letters...I know because i know people who tried and were told at the DMV they couldn't. Im talking as far back as 2009 or so...

I got it from the SSA office. Just told them that I needed the letter to get my license. They basically treat you as a visitor and give you a letter where it states your are not eligible for a SSN. I had my I-797C approval notice. Not just the ones we receive when our paperwork has been received. That is a form that they will accept. I know this because I checked the website and it was noted on the guys paperwork.

Sounds like you are misleading SSA, if you present a EAD you're eligible for a SSN....
The end.

If you are approved for DACA and have an EAD on the way, how are you telling SSA that you need a letter of denial?

You trying to commit fraud to get your DL quicker?
