Hey everyone. Ok so congrats to the approved and good luck to those waiting for approval.
Has anyone been able to get a DL already since their approval? I know some have finally just now received their SSC congrats to u guys... Can u tell us UR story at the DMV? Thanks!!

My Question: Is EVERY state providing ONLY a 2year license to us dreamers?
I think if u provide ur EAD as proof of ID they will probably see the EXP on ur EAD which will most likely result in ur DL being exp'd same time as ur EAD.
BUT what if u already have an ID or an exp'd DL??(I don't, I'm just saying..)
My Suguestion: U can show ur ID/DL as proof of identification with ur SSC and they might just provide u with a 4-5 year (maybe even 10 year) DL!!! Has anyone tried this? Seems pretty legit..

ANOTHER QUESTION: If u already show ur EAD for ur ID to the DMV, do they still ask u for ur passport? If so, does it have to be VALID? I read somewhere in GA, they ask u for a valid passport is that true?
Maybe we can show them our BC As a follow up to our passport. Maybe the DMV will except it cuz the SAA did too..

YOUR THOUGHTS?

MY THEORY WAS RIGHT!! A CA dreamer on here got his license which expires in 4 YEARS!!!!
She had an expired passport.. So just had to renew it. So ONLY show them ur EAD if u absolutely have no other valid form of a government issue ID.

Anyone else on here already got their DL in the mail?
P.S- don't worry about the exp date on ur Temporary DL.. That's only suppose to be for a couble of mths..

I don't understand this official thread...

CA DMV does not accept a passport without a Valid Visa as proof of Legal Presence???

How is just showing an unexpired Passport going to be favorable in that regard?

I just got back from the DMV in California and got my driver's permit. The entire process was fairly smooth and easy. I all needed was my ead and ssn. Besides that, it's just waiting in line for a while. The written test was fairly simple as well. I read through the manual once and went through the samples tests on the dmv website

That was a part of a different scenario. Cuz in GA deffered action applicants need to provide EAD, with a VALID passport (according to the site) that's what I was saying in THAT part.. Legal presence would be verified through EAD.. Unless u had already had a DL/ID before.. Then I don't think you'll need to show the EAD.. SSC should be enough..

I'm in FL and wow if I am able to get a driver's license that is valid for 4 years I might piss myself lol. The license I had before that was only valid for one year and had "TEMPORARY" in big red letters was just so frustrating and embarrassing.
I don't really understand it though, why 4 years when your EAD is valid only 2?

Oh shyt congrats lol!! I'm kinda nervous about my test.. I gotta study upp lol! U guys r lucky.. States like CA/IL aren't as strict as GA.. I hope they don't ask for my VALID passport.. I'd officially be screwed -_- just waiting to get my SSC in the mail and I'll give my DMV a visit.. (which got pretty crappy ratings online)

Thanks! I hope all goes well. Good luck! I am thankful to be in a state that's somewhat accommodating to illegal immigrants

In Illinois, the Secretary of State announced on the news that all granted I-821D will be able to obtain a DL that will expire in 5 years (which is the standard in IL). He said the requirements to obtain a DL in IL are EAD, SSN and pass the driver's test(s).
