Reaching 6 Weeks After Applying for SSN

Hey everyone,

so I'm still waiting on my SSN. I called my local office who checked my records and said that "everything's fine". There's no hold on my record and the number is still waiting to be verified with the Department of Homeland Security. There's not much I can do and the guy on the phone says that sometimes DHS needs to be pushed to do their jobs.

I'm getting a little impatient since the time was supposed to be "within four weeks"

But I hope this post will calm anyone else down who is waiting a long time with their own SSN #
I don't know how I managed to be one of the first accepted Dreamer and yet other people have managed to get their SSN sooner but it may have to do with the district? Who knows. I plan on calling again next week around Friday if there's still no word.

I'm sorry, I can't imagine how frustrated you are. I got sick of waiting almost 3 weeks in and this is what I did: http://dreamact.info/forum/showpost....&postcount=934

Hope it helps! Don't be afraid to go in their office and hassle them! Otherwise they become very complacent and just wait. After all, it's not their SSN that's taking 6 weeks.

Yeah, I talked to my lawyer this week who told me to go down to the SSN Office and demand why I haven't gotten any response. Even if they can't help me right away I'm hoping to grind their ass so they grind DHS

Do you HAVE to go to the SSN office that services your district?

If that's the one you originally applied at, yes. Whenever I called an office other than mine, they gently reminded me that my original office is the one that has jurisdiction over me and they will have the most recent changes on file. Also, if you're going to be angry and demanding anything, it just makes a lot more sense to do it with the people who handled your case in the first place.

Best of luck! I received mine a week after applying. Would have been sooner but Hurricane Sandy suspended mail in my area.
