Hey Everyone,
I need some guidance from those who have some type of business online... I am thinking on possibly starting a website and providing a service. What type of paperwork is required to stay out of trouble? Is there anyone that could guide me, or at least help me get on the right path?

Best Regards,
Latte11

I think you can link your website with paypal, use analytics to check the traffic and get paid per ads. You'd have to do a lot of the research on your own though. but yes, if you get enough hits and people click on ads, you can generate income.

Hello,
Thanks for the information. My question is, do I need to have a particular Tax ID for my business? I looked into Paypal (already have an account with them) to set up a business account with them, what kind of information do they need?

Do I need to register my business name (website) with the government? I know I have lots of questions, but I want to be prepared than sorry...

Best Regards,
Latte11

Depending on the city, county, state you need to register your business even if you're only online, so I would suggest you contact them first. Paypal is going to ask you for a resale permit or business license. Since you're going to be a sole proprietorship you use your SSN.

Yes, you need a EIN http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-...umbers-(EINs)-
and register as a sole proprietor. With that EIN, you present it at any bank to apply for a business checkings account so you can accept checks and other payments under your business name. You can register a business name as your website name (yourwebsitename.com -- ignoring the www.).

Once you have your checkings account, you can sign up for PayPal's business account so funds could route to your business checkings account. Also with a paypal's business account, you take off the monthly cap on transferring revenue to your bank, meaning you can transfer your earnings without the limited cap of a personal account.

Ok, I already have a EIN that I got a while back, thinking that I was going to become an independent contractor doing something that I studied in college; however, what I would like to do is totally different then what I stated on the application when I applied for that EIN. Do I need to get another EIN? I am trying to provide a service like a hotline type of thing.

Does anyone know if I need a license in CA and where do I register the business name?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Latte11

you need a business registered in your state. Not sure of having a license or and insurance, as me myself I am in a process of making one at the moment.

You could run an online business under the radar, but It's much better to get it incorporated for all the added tax benefits.
