FYI Rejected Birth Certificate for SSN

Back in 2004 I applied for a Mexican Passport at the Mexican Consulate in which they took my birth certificate and gave me a sealed photocopy. I received my EAD card today and went straight to the SS office to apply for a SSN. To my surprise they rejected my birth certificate even though it had an official seal form the consulate. Now I find myself in a predicament since my Consulate is overbooked and I am not even sure if they can give me back my birth certificate. I just wanted to share this with the rest of you guys as a heads up if you are in the same situation with your birth certificate.

Wth? Why did they take your original birth certificate? I went to get a passport as well which in the end is completely useless since I already had my matricula but I gave them a copy of my birth certificate. That's strange. :/

Sucks cause I know how booked they can be. Try to see if there's any dates where you could visit on a Saturday or sometimes they're like around the community for those you don't have to make an appoinment. Good luck!

They take a foreign passport as proof of age and identity. Why didn't you bring that?

when I went to get my passport I saw a lot of people that were let in at the end, they asked and were helped. idk you could give it a try.

Take ur ead and ur valid passport thats all you need !!!

Thanks for the replies guys. Well the passport that I did have was expired and she wouldn't take that either. I guess I'll try to sneak into the consulate and demand my birth certificate back! If not, I'll go to another SS office.

Dude, just get a new passport, its like 100 bucks, You can get it on the same day if you go early. The SSA needs "clear" proof that you are the person applying. The EAD should suffice, but they need to confirm it.
