So today, i got my EAD card and went directly to SS office. Luckily, i applied without any interferences or questions ask. However, when i asked for a print out of my ssn, the lady told me that they have to verify my immigration status with the immigration. So i quickly thought to myself, why the heck that lady would say that to me. Doesn't it show on my EAD card?!?!? She said i dont have a number yet. Anyway, She told me to wait about 3-4 weeks to be mailed. I just wanna apply for an ID and DL tomorrow so i can everything done asap. What do you guys think about them verifying my immigration status?

When you apply, you don't automatically get assigned a number.

The SSA has to verify your information on the EAD with DHS and they also have to verify your Birth Certificate and identity.

I have been reading the SSN thread and some people got their print outs within 24-48hrs only. But i wonder if they made a phone call first asking if they could get a print out. What should i do?

Are you kidding me? This is the normal process of getting a SSN for the first time, why in the world would they give you a number at an SSO branch on the day that you applied? Wow! People need to learn to be more patient and quit complaining unnecessarily.

I applied for my SSN on 10/18/12 they initially told me to wait 3 to 4 weeks, called on Tuesday to check the status of my card and they told me they were waiting to hear back on immigration to verify my status. So I asked how much more should I wait and there answer was 60-90 days.. That's just great !!!!

huh? How come all cases sound weird to me?
This is my case:
I applied for SSN and received a receipt saying I will be mailed within 2 weeks.
They didn't tell me anything after entering data from my passport and EAD, I just received a receipt that's all! I am in NY btw.
