To schedule a road test in New York takes over a month but a permit is the same day from my understanding. Anyone ever get pulled over and just had their learners permit?

I think you are supposed to have someone licensed driver with you at all times at least in Cali. Read their DMV book.

yeah you can't drive alone with just the permit. The person must be 21 or older and with a valid state license. at least thats how it is here in Il

Im from NY and all i have right now is my permit. You need to have a licensed driver, over the age of 21 in your car. You can only drive from 5AM to 9PM i think. I am waiting for my 5 hour class certificate and then i can finally schedule the road test. it does take several weeks from the time you get your permit to scheduling a road test. NY sucks at the way they issue a road test/license. I had a license from NC before and you get it the same day. You can walk in the DMV and take your road test and get license as soon as you pass.

I'm from NY also and I have my permit. You need a licensed driver next to you over the age of 21 with just a permit. I don't think there are rules about what time you can or can't drive. I think that applies only to junior licenses. I just finished my 5 hour class this past weekend and NYC is so backed up right now because of that bitch Sandy they had to shut down a few sites (Coney Island, Red Hook, Staten Island). The earliest scheduled road test is in January 2013. My date is 1/2/13.
