I always assumed that deferred action was to help student and people with degrees who couldn't work but today i went to community college to register and they told me that the C line of work permits (c33 is the EAD we have) are not eligible to use for college, only work... is this true? Can i not go to school? I just graduated this year..

Wtf? You don't even need an ead or anything to go to college.. This is my 3rd year in college and I still didn't even get approved for DACA.. You need to speak to someone who can help you out.. They can't deny you based on your status.. Especially since you have a SSN now

I would try to get in touch with either the dean of admissions at your college or a student advocate and plead your case with them. I don't think most colleges and universities have a policy yet regarding DACA beneficiaries so that might be your best bet.

You can go, but you will pay out of state tuition(double). I am going to wait this year and see if DA will pass this year, so I can enlist in the Air Force. Some state do give instate tuition there a thread on the lounge for more info.

They ask for SSN and proof of legal residency for which i showed them my EAD and they said that work permits don't allow you to study.

That's absurd. What state are you in?

EAD has nothing to do with allowing you to study as far as I know. However, EAD also does not show proof of lawful immigration status, you are still an unauthorized ("illegal") immigrant if you're an DACA beneficiary. That's why several states have passed their on Dream Acts so people can pay in-state tuition, but that's not the case in all states.

You have to ask someone that's not a regular worker at admissions, especially if your state has not enacted a law against admitting unauthorized immigrants as students, because each college has a different policy on how to treat these cases.

What school and state? Also your EAD is proof your identity and status!

It sounds like they think you are a foreign worker on some sort of work visa and in that case you wouldn't be allowed to study without a student visa. I would either try again and explain the situation or talk to someone higher up.

Yeah, you aren't required to have neither you social security number nor EAD to attend college. My brother and sister both go to a state institution lacking both of those and have been three and two years in, respectively.

Good luck!
