So, after receiving my permit last week I signed up for driving lessons at a driving school near my house. I took two one hour classes so far and noticed a huge improvement in my driving during today's lesson. My first time behind the wheel I made a lot of mistakes such as pressing the gas pedal too hard (it's really sensitive, nothing like Need For Speed ) breaking too late, not looking around, turning too fast or too slow etc. My instructor worked extra hard to correct my driving by telling me what to do and pressing the break pedal on his side. He insisted I make a lot of turns so I pretty much drove around the neighborhood making left and right turns at every opportunity.
Today was a lot better though. I finally got used to the gas pedal sensitivity and drove a lot smoother. My instructor didn't use his break a single time. I did make a few mistakes here and there, but nothing major.
Overall I'm happy with my progress so far, driving is all about practice and learning from your mistakes.
Anyway, how did you guys prepare or how are you planning to prepare for your driving exam? Share your stories, tips and advices for people learning to drive.

I paid $115 up front and I'm now paying $27 for each hour of driving with the instructor.

i just started driving a month ago and took my behind the wheel and passed!

i tried practicing with my mom at first but she's way too annoying and nervous so she hired an instructor. i did four lessons with him, which were 2 hours each. i also practiced with my dad. i would say that i did a total of 15 hours worth of driving before taking my behind the wheel test. i passed missing only 5 out of 15.

my biggest problem when i first started was turns. i just couldn't get them. i would either go too fast, too wide, or too short. but the best way to get used to it is to just practice. i am also very heavy footed so the car was really jerky at first, but again it just comes with time and practice.

my biggest tip is to drive around the area where you will be taking your exam. i practiced around my dmv for three days and i was so glad because when i took my test i pretty much memorized the roads.

I wish it was that cheap out here. One of the local schools wants $68 for one hour of behind the wheel instruction.

It's ridiculous.

Ouch. In Las Vegas it is about $55 an hour.

Well I drove 7 + years with no license, so that was plenty of experience for me and passed the driving exam easily.

Before DACA, I had NEVER driven (ever! Not in high school and not in college), so I was quite nervous/anxious to get started. I took several hours of driving from a driving school and additionally also practiced driving at home with one of my licensed family members present in the car helping me (as per the law on driving with a permit in my state).

I highly recommend going to a driving school and also taking your road test through the driving school. My driving instructor was very nice and really taught me a lot as well as helped build my confidence in driving. I have since passed the road test and obtained my driver's license.
