I applied 2 weeks ago for a ssn and they just called me saying that The Department of Homeland Security can't verify my card electronically. The social security administration said that they have to send them a copy of my card and wait. They said it will take a couple of weeks. The waiting continues

That's weird...The only problem I encountered was the ”10 day wait.” They told me they were going to process it after the 10 days. I went at the 8th day after my EAD. SoI figured it was just 2 days extra. They gave me a receipt that I would get my SS # within 2 weeks. I waited 2 weeks and nothing. I called them after the 2 weeks and they told me I wasn't in the system. That I would have to go to the office to see what was wrong. I went to the office and I waited so long to just be told come back tomorrow. I went there the next day with my receipt and they gave me a lame excuse... ”We were verifying the information because there is someone with the same name.” I think that they forgot to process my application after the 10 days because I got my SS # 4 days after.

It seems weird that the DHS can't verify it. Don't they approved all that?

I think the person that helped you made a mistake. Go to another office...

That's a complete possibility. Someone else had this happened to them, I forget which thread it was.

When I applied two mondays ago, I wasn't on the system and the lady that help me took a photocopy of my ead and said that she had to send it out to get it verified. I'm still waiting to hear anything back.

I applied on Nov. 26 and I got the 4-week letter since my EAD was still "fairly recent." I first called last Friday and a helpful representative told me that I wasn't on the system, she then gave me the extension # of the lady who filed my application. I first told her that I would call back in a few days but she told me to call her right away and leave her a voicemail because "processes like mine can be resolved quickly." I called her and left her a voicemail with my information but she never called me back. Today I called and another representative first told me that it was still too soon and I should give them more time. After pressing the representative for more info, she checked my application and she said that "there wasn't anything in the system yet." Please let us know if you go to another office and about your experience with them. Thanks and good luck!
