Just out of curiosity, is anyone else working on the common application to transfer? I'm currently working on my transfer essay and don't know if it's appropriate bringing up my undocumented status in it. Is it too political? Do I just mention it in the "Additional information" essay? Do I just leave it out completely?

other details, I'm applying to University of Illinois at Chicago, and got accepted into Depaul. but there's no way I can afford their tuition.

It's all about what you make of it. If you can turn it into something positive about how you succeeded in spite of the struggles of living undocumented, then it's a good thing.

Here in California, at least, it's not as taboo anymore talking to administrators about being undocumented ("AB540 students" is the preferred terminology; AB540 is the law that gave undocumented high school graduates in-state tuition).

So it's definitely not a bad thing to talk about it, especially if you have a strong GPA -- you can bring up how you were able to maintain good grades "living in the shadows" or something along those lines.
