international drivers license

hey guys i just read somewhere that i could have a license from my home country and at the same time have a international drivers license, which is not a license just a booklet that translate my drivers license from my country and i can drive here as a visitor, i was wondering if anyone knows more abou this, if you do let me know please.

I just know that you could get fined for driving with an international license. I think you are supposed to have a legal passport to make the international license legal. What I mean by legal passport is that you basically came here legally with it.

as long as the foreign license is valid, the inetrnational license is valid. you can legally drive and must carry both of them.

you should be able to use it. but once you get caught by the cops for speeding or something, their going to tell you that your not allowed to use the license.

TheInquisitor is right, you need to carry both lincenses. I have a friend who got this international license and was driving around with no California or Mexican Driver's license. And I remember that he always bragged about how smart he was by getting this license. And when I told him that I wasn't valid without any of the other LD, he laughed. And told me I was nuts.

So one day he shows up to work all depressed and stuff. Apparently he was stopped by an officer and when asked for his license he showed this IDL. The police person told him that it wasnt valid and took his truck.

If I can get a Mexican DL and an International DL. I got into the US legally but both visa and passport expired. Would I be able to drive? And if the cop stops you, are you up for deportation?

How can one obtain an international driver license? I have a valid Mexican license but have no idea how to get an international license. If anyone knows, please tell me! I'd appreciate it.

Also, if I get both licenses, will i be able to drive around in a car with American license or would it be better to get a Mexican car license?

you can do it online and it's pretty cheap.. google it and it's all over and by a car with American license you mean tag? Yeah, you can get a tag and insurance with the international license. Hope it helped

Hey be careful there's tons of sites and people who offer to do the international license out there but in the US the only organization

allowed to assign international licenses is AAA, nobody else can, and it costs 10 or 15 bucks so if they ask you for more than that you

know it's fake and also it's called "international driver's permit" so if they advertise it as a "license" then you know it's fake, and the

only one who can give you one is AAA nobody else dont fall for all of those ads online I know all this because I did a lot of research

because my parents where trying to get one and it turned out to be fake so they didn't get it. And you do need a valid license from

your country and the only way you can get an international drivers permit is getting it at your home country, they give them here but

only to people who have american licenses and are going overseas, in other words you must get it at your country of citizenship. So

say if you have a valid license from Sri Lanka you wont be able to get the international permit here, people must do it before

they leave their home countries.

Careful with the scams, some of them look legitimate but they're fake.
