I don't think you can do it by yourself. And since you are asking here I assume you don't know anything about accounting. So I would advice you to go to h&r block or a place similar to that. Don't go to notarios or similar, unless they are certified for that? Can someone be certified to do taxes?

But yes seek professional help. The IRS is no joke.

you can use TaxSlayer.com

it's really simple to use. if my sister can use it, so can you. it's a step by step process that tells you what to enter from which line on your W2. i think you can file your federal tax for free but need to pay for your state tax.

i know with all the new tax rules and what not, that even though you can file your tax return now, it wont be processed till March. so most people are just waiting until March to file.

you can also go to Walmart and they have a table from Jackson Hewitt and you can get your taxes done there too.

Yeah. IRS is no joke.

I know myself. Recently got a CP2000 for 2010 for not claiming a $52 interest bonus my bank gave me.

I recommend not going to H&R block. I recommend going to a licensed tax preparer that specializes in the Hispanic community and people like us. I'm sure they deal with similar cases very often and can guide you better.

Unless you have a business, filing taxes yourself is quite easy. Just google it. I do recommend using a professional taxt preparer though. Turbo tax and similar sites can sometimes mess you up.

You don't have to be a CPA to file taxes. You just need to be a registered tax return preparer. I work at an Accounting firm. The firm Accountant is not a CPA, yet very reputed among the clients. I'd def recommend a small Accounting firm over places like H&R Block. I think they're over priced.

Fully agreed. There's many Accounting firms who's clients are mainly hispanic business owners and individuals.

By the way. If you file for 2012, you should also file for as many years back as you can. I think its 3 retro years you can file. If you don't and you owed money any of those years, you will probably get something from the IRS. Maybe even audited. No one wants to be audited by the IRS. I couldn't sleep for days after I received a CP2000 in the mail from them. Now Im so organized and keep every receipt used for business. I'm still scared they might try to audit me! lol!

You can pretty much file it on your own, doing it is a complete joke. TurboTax is a great program, also if you buy, use it as a tax deductible lol.
