How do i check status online?

ok so i went to this site https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard/CaseStatus.do to check my case status...i think that's the right one and when i enter my 13 digit number and click "check status" nothing comes up...does that mean that my case isn't even in the first step...i went to biometrics so i find that unlikely...What do you guys think? thanks...

did you type in the 3 letters along with your number?

actually after reading carefully it even says my case can't be found really?

yea i did and when i try to add and "application receipt number" to the portfolio under "My case status" it says

Customer Portfolio Insert Failed
Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the application receipt number.
