Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday that Democrats would introduce the first 10 bills in the 113th Congress.

Reid did not list all of the bills that would be introduced, but said some of them will be bills that the Senate passed during the 112th Congress that were left to “languish” in the House.

Reid said that undertaking immigration reforms, addressing gun violence, strengthening schools and helping jobless veterans would be among the issues that will be Democrats' "North Star as we work to end wasteful tax loopholes and balance thoughtful spending reductions with revenue from the wealthiest among us."

"We will remain resolute – resolute in the pursuit of fairness for all Americans, regardless of where they were born or the color of their skin, regardless of the size of their bank accounts, regardless of their religion or their sexual orientation," Reid said on the Senate floor Tuesday. "Those principles will direct our course as we introduce our first ten bills today – a tradition in the United States Senate – and as we mend our broken immigration system, strengthen our schools and rebuild our roads and bridges. Those principles will be foremost in our minds as we balance the right to bear arms with the right of every child to grow up safe from gun violence."

He also said he would reintroduce the bipartisan-passed Violence Against Women Act, the farm bill, postal service reform and Hurricane Sandy recovery, which the House did not take up during the last Congress.

Reid said the first bill the Senate will take up is the House-passed Hurricane Sandy supplemental bill, H.R. 152, which would provide more than $50 billion in mitigation to Northeastern states hit by Hurricane Sandy last October.

Reid said after the Hurricane Sandy bill, the Senate would consider rule changes that are being negotiated by himself and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). The leaders are expected to talk with their caucuses during lunches this afternoon.

Looks like it is just these two days. Hope the bill is sponsored by two parties, not just one.

The Siren bells have been ringing and finally Congress is hearing them. The biggest domestic issue which also has economic implications, the country's immigration system or the lack of it, is positioning itself to the CENTER STAGE. Let the debate festivities begin!

There will be hearings first before an official mark-up in the Senate Judiciary. The mark-up would be based I think on the Gang of 8 compromise. The best place I think to look is here under either Business meetings or Hearings in the coming months and look for anything immigration related.

I wouldn't expect anything until late next month-March,according to most articles.

Yes, I think it will be smooth sailing after it hits the floor though. The moment this happens..there will be massive pressure from immigrant groups. I don't expect it to fail this time. The moment it hits the floor..four weeks tops it will become a law.

Although I do think something will pass, I still believe you are being too optimistic. My speculation is before the August recess.

Reid says it will be INTRODUCED, not DISCUSSED.

I think they may have the confirmation thing to finish right after the Sandy bill.

It's going to take all year to get this immigration reform bill going, hopefully we will see a vote during summer or just after it (September)

They must definitely pass it ASAP because its going to take another 5-6 months for them to implement the law. So I'm hoping if they pass it by end April, it can go into effect by September. Damn we got a long way to go but I guess compared to how long we've waited, its nothing.

I'm hoping its quick to too, like most of the things they could compromise easily on. Border Fence, E-Verify, Pathway to citizenship, Learn English, Taxes.

we'll see man.
