I went to go get my learner's permit today (just received my social security card). The lady said I didn't have proof of Deferred Action because I didn't have a receipt? All I received was the actual EAD card, and two letters of action or notice, whatever. BUT, last week I went to get an ID from there (received today as well), and presented the same documentation to a man (minus social and VA ID), and it went fine? I don't get it. Was she just being a b****, or do we need a receipt and the other man was just lenient?

You can go to VA's DMV website to check all the stuff you need. There's a link that has a list of valid documents you can use to get a license and I think you can even fill out all the paperwork at home to save you time.

Hope that helped.

Hey, thanks for replying. See, I already know the documents I need to present. I think the lady just didn't have a clue or didn't really want to help me out...not cool. I can't figure out what she means by receipt though. I have two official letters from USCIS (one for EAD, and one for Deferred Action). That should be legal residency proof right there.

Anyways, I'm going to try first thing in the morning. Will post what happens.

Also, does anyone know the deal for Permit/License if I'm 19?

Congratulations! Maybe she was just being a hardass. You know how some people are here in VA. Especially when you're in the country. haha

What documents exactly did you present to get your permit and how long did the whole process take? I am going on Monday with:

-approval letter(not the actual EAD card, im waiting for that)
-foreign unexpired passport
-College official transcript
-last month's bank statement
-birth certificate

Would they be enough?
Thanks.

No, they only ask for the approval notice letter(not even the EAD card).

I went there today to get my learner's. Brought my EAD, SSN, approval letters, college transcript and a passport and they didn't know what to do with it. It took forever.

Also, if you're over 19, do you really have to wait 60 days to get a DL? My friend got his license a couple years ago and he only drove around with a learner's for about a month and got his DL. I'm not sure if the laws changed.
