I just got denied by capital one and wells fargo...capital one didn't tell me why, and wells fargo (although it was just a "college/student" credit card) told me its because i'm not a permanent u.s. resident sooo does that mean ill be denied everywhere? do we need to be residents? thanks! oh and i know i need to change my signature...

some banks have policies about giving out credit cards. you may try other banks, but as it seems, it may be that they tried to see your credit history with your social and it may not be showing up yet. How long ago did you get your ssn? Did you have a previous credit history?

That is so weird. I have a capital one credit card, I've had it for about a year and half, i signed up with my ITIN number. Granted they only started me off with $500, but they said nothing about my status and I had no previous credit history. You know how they ask you about your job and where you live... maybe you haven't had enough history either working or living somewhere?

Also, I forgot to ask did you did to sign up online with Capital One? If you got denied online they will mail you a letter telling you why they can't give you credit. My husband has a horrible credit score because his Ex put him in so much debt, no one will give him a credit card and he was born here. Everyone says, "oh Capital One gives it to everyone", but he couldn't get one from them, and I am undocumented and I got approved.

You should start with secured credit cards. I got a credit card with firstprogress.com They require a deposit which is used as your line of credit.

yeah, i did do it online, (capital one)...i think it was lack of credit history. I don't have a job, the only thing i have, is ive been living in this area for almost my entire life. Thats it. I think i'll return after i find a job, or just go in person to get something worked out :P thank you for replying!

Yea if you don't have a job you will most likely get denied. They also look at your credit history. Credit cards are the only way to build credit so look around. Good luck!
