I find what Gingrich say of interest simply because of the fact he was formerly the Speaker of the House as a Republican....but obviously politics today are quite different from the era he reigned.
Quote:
During an appearance on ABC’s This Week on Sunday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) admitted that Republicans are likely to oppose any immigration reform proposal introduced by President Obama because they personally dislike the Commander-in-Chief.

“An Obama plan led and driven by Obama in this atmosphere with the level of hostility towards the president and the way he goads the hostility I think is very hard to imagine that bill, that his bill is going to pass the House,” Gingrich said. “I think that negotiated with a Senate immigration bill that has to have bipartisan support could actually get to the president’s desk.”

The Senate-backed framework for immigration reform, which enhances security on the border and includes a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, shares many similarities with Obama’s own proposal, though the president has repeatedly said that if Congress fails to make progress, he will introduce his own reform legislation.

That plan, obtained by USA Today, “mirrors many provisions of the bipartisan 2007 bill” spearheaded by Ted Kennedy and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and would allow unauthorized immigrants “to become legal permanent residents within eight years.” “The plan also would provide for more security funding and require business owners to check the immigration status of new hires within four years,” the paper reports.

Despite its bipartisan nature, the draft proposal was immediately panned by Republicans. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) — a member of the Senate group working towards producing comprehensive legislation — called it “dead on arrival,” while Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said it demonstrated that Obama is “looking for a partisan advantage and not a bipartisan solution.”

Republicans are more concerned with Obama getting the credit for the immigration overhaul than fixed the dam system. Ultimately, Obama will go down in history for being a reformer

There are good reformers and bad reformers. Both are remembered.

Only history can tell what type of reformer Obama is.

Oh, no, we are not - if Obama orders DHS to act. Under the law, Napolitano has the authority to order a registration program for the current undocumented population or subsets as they did with DACA. The joke is on them.

The million dollar question is will Obama/DHS do it?

^Inciteful post,I think the Administration doesn't have anything to loose at this point and there are some very strong points as to why the Republicans had better think very strategically this time around.

If DACA implementation didn't hurt the President's re-election but helped it what does he have to lose by going even further?I think this is a setup for 2014 if Republicans don't play ball seriously for many reasons to pass a bill.

-If the President decides to play hardball by giving most or if not all undocumented "DACA" he effectively removes the "illegal immigrant" argument since most will more than likely sign-up.

-I read an article that mentioned internal Republicans have indicated they know they are not too popular and could possibly lose the House of Representatives.

-There will be ~1.6 million more latino voters by 2014....

-Republicans can't seem to understand the 'family value' issue in this.US citizens in a mixed status family will do anything to protect their family members no matter the values presented by the candidate and or party!

Son, your looking at the short-term solution. I am looking at the long-term solution, which is 10 years from now.
