Ok, so i waited this long to apply because i knew i was going to be moving and didn't want to have any problems with that. Now that i'm all settled, i'm applying to FIU(admissions are still open) but since in my situation i don't have an SS# i don't know whether i should leave the space blank or try to apply as an international student. I've been lurking here for a while so i know some of you have gotten accepted to colleges and i thought one of you guys might now.

You can leave it blank. Usually colleges are 'blind' to these kind of stuff.

Also, its always safe to email the college and ask them about your particular situation. In NY at least, the counselors are professional and will work with you.

If you apply as an international student they are going to want to see the student visa. Try going to a community college first, especially in the Miami-Dade/Broward County area. They are usually receptive to undocumented students because they see so many of them. They will most likely make you pay out-of-state tuition but its better than nothing.

I tried applying to FIU and, surprisingly because its in a heavily Hispanic area, I was received very harshly. The lady at the admissions desk literally said "I want a green card or you will pay out-of-state and that's final". Needless to say, I'm not attending that school.

Have you been in FL for a long time? If you have, PM me and I will give you some advice on applying for the FL Bright Futures scholarship (I'm sure you've heard of it if you have been here for awhile). It's crucial that you fill out the app before June or it'll be void.

Hope this helps!

Right now i don't care if i get in state tuition or not. All i'm asking is if i can get accepted without using an ss#

oh and i'm definetly applying for bright futures. I wasn't going to, but they told me i could leave the SS# space blank for that.

Yay! So you've heard! =)

From my experience, they won't give you even out-of-state without some sign that you're in the country legally. That was just my experience. I already wrote what the lady told me word for word. And I'm guessing the only reason she was going to allow me to apply for international student tuition is because I had some documents from USCIS on a pending immigration process I'm in. Trust me, those people at FIU are a$$es.

But who knows, you might have better luck. =)

Wow that would suck. I always thought no colleges would let me in my situation which is why i was adamant at first to apply anywhere until i read some success stories. It's worse in my situation since i'm in some advanced classes where everyone is just expected to go to college somewhere (they don't ask you if i'm going to college but where). Personally i really don't mind waiting a year to go to college (since i want to take the year off anyways and learn German), but i'm just dreading the day my teacher asks me where i'm going this fall.

I know how you feel dude! I was offered a page position in DC through an AP teacher that saw "potential" in me; trouble is I couldn't fly in a plane or show them proof of legal status to get a proper federal ID. I cried for an entire week straight.

One excuse my brother used when he was in this situation was that he was going "globe-trotting" for a year, you know, hitting all the big stops. Although it was lying, his teachers were pretty impressed. And best of all, no further questions. =)

I say try to apply as an international student, especially private colleges (state colleges suck). I did and I got lucky. Financial aid is a wonderous thing when they want you. I say call international offices at colleges you'd like to target or attend, and see if they can handle cases like yours.

Second of all, transcripts and SAT scores will be there forever. I guarantee you. I found my SAT scores from when I was a junior in HS and four years later, I had to request them and got them easy.

I just took the LSAT and law schools will generally honor that for 3-5 years. I'm sure a similar principle is applied to SAT scores. You should be fine.
