Im very thankful about getting my driver's license after DACA. Now I have a job and contribute to my community with no problems in regard to transportation. However, I hate showing my license with the Big Fat Red letters that says Limited Terms, I don't care about the expiration date but it sucks to explain to anyone that sees my driver license about what it means.

I know people in other states have it a lot more harder like the situation with North Carolina where they brand us with "No Lawful Status" and a pink stripe or Arizona whose government doesn't even let dreamers drive. However, would there be any problems if I try to cover the "Limited Term" part of the license, I mean it doesn't serve any purpose other than have people asking about what it means.

Its unlawful and you're altering it. Basically fraud.

I think that would be an alteration of the license and therefore illegal. I wouldn't do it given that your state already put limitations on your license, you wouldn't want to ask for unwanted attention, if, let's say a cop stopped you. I would live with the Limited Terms.. way better than the No Lawful Status.

Possession of a driver's license that is fictitious or has been altered is a Class A misdemeanor. Class A misdemeanors have a possible punishment of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine. This law also applies to possession of more than one currently valid driver’s license.

TEX TN. CODE ANN. § 521.451 : Texas Statutes - Section 521.451: GENERAL VIOLATION

(a) Except as provided by Section 521.452, a person may not:

(1) display, cause or permit to be displayed, or have in the person's possession a driver's license or certificate that the person knows is fictitious or has been altered;

Yeah don't do it. Come over here to CO where your license won't have any sort of BS written on it.

Im was thinking about moving to the west after a year or so if no reform was passed, however Texas offers me in-state tuition so that is what is keeping me here for now.

Yep, Texas gives you this type of of license that expires the same date of our EAD. However, just to make it clear that our status sucks at the moment they have big red letters that say "limited terms" as if paying the same amount for a license that expires in two years is not enough. Although is hard to complain when you hear stories about North Carolina or other states that don't offer licenses I guess.

Hear hear..

Went to open a bank account the other day and got a "Why... does your license say Limited Term?" It's the first time I showed it to anyone so I'm guessing I'll be getting the same reaction from everyone.

Now, I can just say that I'm a temporary visitor, but I've been living a lie by being very ambiguous to all of my friends about how I'm here legally :P

You can alter your license but then you can go to jail and probably get deported for altering a government document. Just remember how it felt BEFORE you had a license. I don't like the Limited Term either but it doesn't even come close to what it feels to not have anything at all.

I know having a license has helped a lot the last couple of days. I was just thinking putting a sticker or taping it off, would that be consider altering? Although it might cause unwanted attention, Im not sure if you can consider it fraud.
