Yes, anytime next week is just fine. If you can go Monday, go Monday.

On other news, the word "shit" is okay to say on television. The word "republican" has been added to the curse words list.

Yup, grab your EAD, your passport and head to the SS Office to apply a card. Fill up the form, wait hour-ish, fill another form and answer questions (may or may not be asked) asked by the clerk. Get your receipt and leave.

Then, the long limbo of waiting for the card starts. Some people gets it the next day, some people the next week and some people waited upto 6 weeks (I'm approaching my 5th week) until being told there's some issue with it and they have to reapply.

Go to a local social security office:
Bring the following:
1) Filled out form SS-5, in question 5 mark "Legal Alien Allowed To Work" **
2) Your Employment Authorization Card
3) A secondary ID (one of the following):
  • Foreign birth certificate
  • Foreign passport
  • US Military Record
  • US Military ID card
  • Religious record showing age or date of birth
  • US Driver License
  • US State ID card
  • School record showing age or date of birth (ex. transcript)
  • School ID card
  • Copy of medical record
http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/deferred_action.pdf

** - You can also obtain the form at the office, but it's probably better to just fill it out at home, being able to type in the information and having plenty of time to re-check everything over and over again.

All documents used must be the originals, or certified copies.

You should receive the SS card within 2 weeks. Usually you can also obtain a print out of your number within 2-3 days if you go visit the social security office again. Some states accept print-outs, others require the physical card. A partial list of which states accept or do not accept them can be found here.

I think is same everywhere, you should go to the office to ask for one (if you have been assigned one).
