I started my job today and they told me that the background check is still not completed.

I told them that I am 100% sure it will come out clean, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten the EAD in the first place.

Why would it take so long? Could it be because my EAD/SSN is new?

What does a job background check involves?

I have a USC friend who was recently hired for a big company, her background check is taking 2-3 weeks already and she has clean record, obviously a valid SSN. So if it's for a big company I think that it is normal to take that long.

Yes, E-Verify is one of them. And you mean it takes a while for us? And how long is that?

I told the HR lady that my SSN is brand new and she said "that's helpful to know". Also, my company does not use LexisNexis.

They told me that my employment is "contingent on a successful background clearance" - they didn't specify what the time limit is, but they were expecting it to be cleared before I had started. I'm hoping that as long as nothing comes up, I'm fine?

yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Remember that our info is shiny new and is barely in there among the millions of other names.

I think they also check credit history and stuff like that.

I have no credit history, is this a bad thing?

Some companies do indeed run a credit check.

Just tell them that you don't have a credit history.

Nah, don't tell them what they are not asking. If they dont ask don't say. Just wait and answered them truthfully if they ask. You could directly ask them whats taking and they could just tell you its not their doing.
