I was approved last week and I've just received my EAD. I am now going to apply for my SSN, but I would like to know if I can visit any SSA office to do so. I have heard that you must visit the office closest to you, but I would like to know if this is true. I should be able to visit any office, correct?

seeing how the SSA is a federal agency, it could be possible to apply for a SSN at any office. however, traveling to another office rather then the one closest to you is a personal decision.

Any SSA will do.

I applied to one about an hour from my house, then I went to another one to get my printout.

I'm not sure, there's a smaller SS Office a block from me, but when I went there they told me to do it in the bigger office about 22 minute of train from me.

Does the "smaller" office show up on the SSA locator when you enter your Zip Code?

NYC is one of few places where you need to go to a card center to apply for a number or card replacement. Most other places any social security office will do.

Yeah that's what I thought but I couldn't check the locator website yesterday as it wasn't loading to make sure.
