Hello, I've been accepted into UCSD and have been planning on visiting for Triton Day. I would like to take my parents but they are afraid of being deported. Are there any UCSD students here? Would it be safe for them to go? We wouldn't be staying there, just going in the morning and leaving at night. Thanks!

Please contact Professor Tom Wong. He is a Professor of Political Science at UCSD and an ex-dreamer. I will PM you with his e-mail.

Contact him again. Sometimes, it takes him a while to respond.

Anyhow, I am sure your parents will be fine if they accompany you to the event. My parents and I have gone to UCSD and other parts of La Jolla.

Why are they scared of getting deported? Are they crossing the border?

We live in LA and as kaptainslapaho said there are checkpoints in SD. I was wondering if anybody in SD would tell me how much of a risk it would be to go there.

Just sobreity checkpoints, which I assume also occurred or occur in LA too? I see your concern though. But, if you are DACA approved, have your license, and can drive, those sobreity checkpoints will not be problem for your and your parents. You should drive though if, again, you are DACA approved. That I know of, BP does not conduct checkpoints. You might see patrol cars on a rare occasion. But, that's it.

I think he means the San Clemente Checkpoint. I had a friend who would commute from San Diego and never had issues. You should drive if you have a DL.

I figured that too. Traveling down here would not be a problem. It would be the drive back. But, isn't there an alternative route to travel from SD to LA? I have heard it takes you four hours though. I will research this because I have a friend who has not been approved for DACA, and he goes to LA every weekend for merchandise.
