Yesterday Senate failed to advance the CIR - Comprehensive Immigration Reform. However, after the cloture vote, many senators expressed supports for the bipartisan Dream Act.

Dream Act has enjoyed a broad and solid bipartisan support. It makes most sense. For example, US military recruiters are desperately trying way to recruit young people from other countries. Sometimes those people can’t even speak English. How can they fight for this country they have never seen? In the mean time, there are about 65,000 undocumented high school graduates each year. Some of them want to join the US army but are rejected simply because they are undocumented. Some of them have lived in US for more than a decade. America is their country and they want to sacrifice their lives for it. The Dream Act won’t solve the current army shortage completely but it will reduce the problem significantly.

The best time to pass Dream Act is not a month later. It’s NOW.

Many senators who opposed the CIR support the Dream Act. This includes the chief-architect of Dream Act Senator Hatch. He strongly opposes the CIR but favors Dream Act.

If the Dream Act alone is given a vote today in Congress, it expects to receive about 80 votes in the Senate and 300+ votes in the House. It has overwhelming support from majority of the senators and congressmen from both parties. Yah. Yah. There are always radicals like Tancredo and Bilbray (I feel so shameful that he is from my district), who wants to give death sentence for every single immigrant – legal or illegal. But that’s only a handful racist. The truth is that the MAJORITY of the elected officials in Congress are REASONABLE, PATRIOTIC, COMPASSIONATE, and SMART Americans. They know Dream Act is the best for American in both the short term and the long term.

Also, the census is that President Bush will most likely sign the Dream Act into law if passed by the Congress.

The decision to bring Dream Act alone (S. 774 and H.R. 1275) depends on Honorable Majority Leader Reid and Honorable House Speaker Pelosi. They are the ones who can decide when to bring Dream Act for a vote.

Any immigration reform must start with the students. They are the future scientists, doctors, soldiers, teachers, and most importantly, TAXPAYERS of America for generations to come.

Let’s act now. Let’s pass the non-controversial Dream Act in next few weeks separately from CIR. This is the easy way.

Please CALL, not email, not fax. Please get up your seat and take your phone and CALL the following leaders. RIGHT NOW!!! Demand them to bring up the Dream Act by itself for a vote as soon as possible!

Speaker Nancy Pelosi
DC: (202) 225-0100
San Francisco: (415) 556-4862

Majority Leader Harry Reid
DC: 202-224-3542
Nevada: 775-882-7343

Senator Richard Durbin
DC: (202) 224-2152
Chicago: (312) 353-4952

For those of people who agree with this idea of passing Dream Act alone, please REPLY below to express your support and CONTACT the above leaders.

May God bless all the undocumented children.
May God bless American people.
May God bless America.

I totally support this. We all need to call and urge them to pass it. If your estimates are correct though(80 votes in senate and 300+ in house) then why dont they just pass it right now?

Exactly, The Dream Act is introduced by itself couple months ago - S. 774 and H.R. 1275. The majority of the people love it. It's attached to CIR. They should bring to the floor alone because CIR is too conplex and it needs more time.

They're closed and their mailboxes are full. Let's get everyone aware of this and call in major numbers on Monday. Are their offices open on weekends?

I urge EVERYBODY. I mean everybody. Don't sit there and wait for this to happen. Talk to your friends. Talk to your parents. Have your parents talk to other people. Have people talk to the pro-immigrant leaders. People need to start to talk to people. We need to be ACTIVE!

Most importantly, we need to talk to Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid. Only they have the power to bring it up for a vote. Bring the Dream Act alone for a vote.

I agree wholeheartedly. Come Monday I'll definitely be calling Pelosi and Reid.

I'm glad to see that a lot of people on this forum are seeing how important it is for us to call senators and congressmen...and I hope whole heartedly that more and more people join this effort and not just say they are going to call, but actually do it. I, as well as a few other people have tried before to get calling/e-mailing campaigns going, etc and in the beginning there's interest, but when it comes down to actually doing it, nothing happens. We need to push it right now, every day, and with all our will power. No more excuses, no more delays. There's quite a few sample letters floating around in the forum you could easily copy and paste if you don't have time to write your own for e-mailing and faxing.

Making a phone call really isn't that hard. Yes, I was nervous when I made my first phone call, but get over that first one and you'll see its painless and the most amount of information an aide has asked me is a zip code.

So as I said before its heartening to see real interest in making a push for DREAM Act. And let's not just 'talk' about it, let's put our words into action.

Come Monday, everyone who voted (or didn't) on this poll needs to spend a certain time of their day calling Senators. Don't let the "eh, someone will do it for me" attitude get to you. We need all the help we can get, and it's PAINLESS to call. The call usually takes about 30 seconds or so. They just ask what you'd like to tell the Senator and SOMETIMES they ask for Zip code. Nothing else.
