I want to ask how to get CA Driver License? I got my Chicago ID like one year ago. Planning to get my driver license this coming month. However, I heard if I am going to move back to CA, I need to apply for the CA driver license when i am back within 30 days. Don't know if it was true. Wanna get some advice from you guys. If I am not going to change my chicago driver license to the CA one, will I be in trouble?

No, what I mean is that you don't need a ssn to get a license in CA you just need to show legal status, if you don't have legal status you won't be able to get a license.

but I wonder what's the legal status of 97% of the people who come to these forums.

(NOTE: sometimes "SSN" doesnt stand for social security number, but rather for "legal status")

If I were you, I would stick with the Chicago ID

No, "ssn" stands for Social Security Number not legal status, there are three types of ss cards:

The first type of card shows your name and Social Security number and lets you work without restriction. We issue it to:
U.S. citizens; and
People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis.
The second type of card shows your name and number and notes, “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” We issue this type of card to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work.
The third type of card shows your name and number and notes, “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT.” We issue it to people from other countries:
Who are lawfully admitted to the United States without work authorization from DHS, but with a valid nonwork reason for needing a Social Security number; or
Who need a number because of a federal law requiring a Social Security number to get a benefit or service.

OK...whatever you say. But what I intended to say was that you need to be a legal resident of the United States of America in order to get a California driver's license. I thought that people would understand the basic idea from my first posts, but I guess I was wrong. That's why now I'm saying it with all of it's letters.
