I have been issued a handwritten emergency passport from my embassy while I wait for my real passport to be processed which will take about 2 months.

I just purchased a round trip ticket from Los Angeles, CA to Saint Louis, MO.

My question is, does anybody here have any experience traveling with a handwritten passport? will I have any problems if I show that as a form of ID? I also have my Argentinian ID with all of my info as well as a debit card with a photo.

I would really appreciate any feedback.

I would strongly recommend calling the airline you purchased your ticket from and ask them directly since they are the ones who check for ID upon boarding plane. Immigration do not check, unless it is an international flight.

I don't know if you would have a problem with it. I have the same emergency passport and when I used it at the post office the other day, I got a funny look lol. The same thing happened to me at a bank. I'm guessing TSA will probably stop you. You should call and find out. Your DNI and debit card aren't considered acceptable IDs. Do you have a state ID?

Don't do it. They're gonna ask you for a visa. I mean ultimately all TSA cares about is that you are who you say you are and who it says on that passport, BUT it could arise questions that could lead to something else. Like them involving ICE. I wouldn't recommend it.

I had the same problem, but I'm from Uruguay. Back in the day the renewal was a stamp and a signature from the consulate person in a page in the back of our passport. my mom flew from newark to miami with it with no problem. buttt it wasnt just pen. it was stamped and signed. if it's just pen....it looks iffy. I could grab a pen and sign it myself.. know what i mean?

yes, mine is stamped and everything... it's an official document but I still have a bit of doubt. I'm probably going to be okay but I still like to get some insight from people that have had the same or similar experience.

You said your mom used to fly with hers back in the day, how long ago was this? and have you ever used yours?

Thank you so much!

Only up until recently my country (like many countries) didn't even have computerized passports so mine has always been handwritten until I got a new one in September. I've traveled with my handwritten passport before and never had problems. You can always call if that'll make you feel better about it but I doubt you'll have issues
