Hello! Im a dreamer and Ill be getting married later on in the summer. I had planned to change my name afterwards to take my husband's last name and to change my middle name to my first name since I never used my first name anyway.

While filling out our marriage application I realized I wanted to change my name first so that my marriage license has the name that I use, instead of the name I will no longer have. Do I go to the social security office and do that or what? Or should I just call USCIS and tell them my situation?

as far as i know there are only 2 ways to change your name, back in your country of origin OR after becoming a USC(and you still have to deal with the whole dual citizenship problem)

I called USCIS they said I'll only be able to change my last name and the first name would have to be done legally through whatever country I'm from.

I called the Mexican Consulate and they said that I would have to go to Mexico (which is obviously not an option for me) in order to change my first/middle name and change it there BUT I could still add his last name to my already ridiculously long name. So instead of four names Ill have five total, how ridiculous is that? >< Sight, I just want a simple name change lol!

I don't want dual citizenship though. I've never gone to mexico since I came here (two years old) so there's no point in having it anyway and if it can lessen any problems without it Ill happily take it off. If only I had the option.

I had a legal name change through a probate court. Each State is different and you should find out. Once I had the form, I went to DMV and SSS to update my information. I tried calling USCIS, but their customer service had no idea what I was attempting to explain to them thus, I wrote them a letter explaining the name change and a copy of the name change form.

I guess if I wanted to, I could file for another EAD, but then again that is pretty costly. Oh, for those wondering I drop my second last name.

Im almost in the same situation as you except that I am still under review. I plan on doing so as soon as I (hopefully)get approved for DACA. I don't know about AZ, but in CA you have to go to the superior court, pay the $300 something filing fee, and put a public notice in the newspaper for an entire month within the county that you filed it in. They do this so people who have problems don't change their names in order to evade their responsibilities like paying back debt etc. In the county Im in it costs about $300 to run that public notice for a month :/ I believe once this is done, you have a court appointment where the judge asks if anyone has a problem with your name change. If there is no problem, the judge will make your name change official. If you already have a DL/or govt ID (which is usually required to get a marriage certificate) then you proceed to get married. In CA you you can take your husbands last name right then and their. Once you have done all this, you go to the nearest SS office near you with all your paperwork and request a name change on your SS card. Finally, you go with your new SS card into DMV and request a name change there. Like I said this is the way to go about it in CA, but I don't think that varies too much state to state. Good luck!!

There are 2 ways to get your name change. 1) for free when you get married 2) through the Court filing a name change (which costs both filing fees and attorney fees).

Because my parents didn't make Mexican laws that make you have a trillion last names.
