So I have DACA and applied for my SSN but haven't recieved it yet (applied in March). I keep calling them but they said it's pending with DHS. I want to go ahead and get enrolled soon and was wondering if anyone else hs had this problem and if it's possible to apply for school? I want to enroll in a Nurse Aide program and I am currently living in Kentucky.

When i went to get my SSN, they made me wait one month. After one moth of waiting, i went to tell them WTF! is taking so long. It turned out the person who filled my application made an error. So the person who found the error fixed it and gave me a printout of my SSN on the spot. Go make sure your application has no errors.

In regards to using a SSN for college, it is not necessary at all. I received my SNN over 6 months ago, and i never updated my SSN with my university.

Generally, a SNN should not keep you from applying to colleges. Call the admissions office and check.

You don't need a SSN to apply for college. However, it is needed to apply for federal financial aid. I'm currently concluding my freshman year of college. I only applied to private colleges because they offer scholarships based on academic achievement, and immigration status does not matter to them. You can still apply to public colleges but you would have to pay out-of-state tuition.

We are not eligible to get any federal aids, and how you can attend college? Like all of us who did, work your ass off.

A bit rough, but true...I know someone who did get financial aid (I haven't asked how). However, how about work-study?

back in 2004 when i first applied for college, i was given a Student ID # by the school. to this day (because i have yet to be approved for DACA) i use that number for school purposes.

you should check with the school and ask if you can be assigned a student ID # until you receive your SSN. then once you have your SSN, you just go back to the Admin office and change your Student IDD # to your SSN.
