I have two questions...

if the dream act passes in sept, how long it takes to be effective?
and if it doesn't pass, can i still apply for military to get a citizenship?

can someone answer these two questions?

A) It will become effective withing 6 months of it becoming a law (Senate, House, Bush all signing it).

B) Don't think so.

Don't know your situation but if you want any hope you better get calling like everyone else that's fighting for this.

Could be even sooner.

Quote:
(1) PROPOSED REGULATIONS- Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security shall publish proposed regulations implementing this section. Such regulations shall be effective immediately on an interim basis, but are subject to change and revision after public notice and opportunity for a period for public comment.
It could take the entire six months...or it could take 6 hours [not very likely but it would still be awesome ].

We are talking about the government agency that makes the postal service look quick and efficient, aren't we?

By my calculations it will take them 5.5 months just to distribute the extra staples needed for processing.

Yeah I know...just making it known that the 6 month mark isn't set in stone. But then again...they do need more people in the military....I have a feeling that the DREAM paperwork will be out RELATIVELY [emphasis on that part lol] quick...but then again, that's not set in stone either . Gotta hope for the best.

You will most likely get a conditional stamp in your passport within a month, depends where you schedule your ICE interview, and the backlog there for interviews... Then probably your Conditional greencard not later then 6 months thats my guess

Are you guys aware of any residence distribution stats for dreamers?

What states would you expect the biggest backlog to be in? Larger states have more immigrants but also larger immigration offices.

This will have nothing to do with Dreamers.... If you live in NYC i would expect a bigger backlog scheduling an interview there then say in Boise, Idaho (if they even have an office there)

ICE doesn't do interviews.USCIS is the only Bureau under DHS that can give out an immigration benefit.I've also talked to a lot of recent people that have gotten married & it appears they do not give out stamps anymore during interviews.Adjudicators usually mention that if they can't make a decision in the interview "We'll mail our decision to you" or if they do make a decision & you're approved"The card will be coming in the mail".I think we'll be getting the conditional resident card only.USCIS also cannot give out any interim benefit until the regulations are full & final.

The looks of visas have also changed if you've been in the country 10 years or more.

I'd bet we'd have to wait for quite sometime but I would expect that anywhere in the mid-west or upper plains of the US to get an immigration benefit first due to the low usage of the Nebraska Service center. All adjustment & citizenship applications have to go to one of the major service centers. The local offices usually have the jurisdiction of just doing the interviews but the actual approval & delay of applications are up to the major service centers.I fully expect the California service center to be the worst of them all, followed by the one in Vermont for the entire Northeast for just the approval of applications but interview delays would depend on which state you live in.
