I just applied for credit card and got it very easily. What I did was as soon as I got my social security number, I added my name under my parents credit card and also put my name under my gf's card. Also opened a citibank account since my dad had it for 10 yrs. I opened a joint account with my dad, myself being primary holder of the account. Few month later my credit score was around 680. I was taking a break at work and decided to apply for a credit card at citibank website. Instant approval for 5000 dollar preferred citi thank you card. Very easy. I guess it would be hard to make at that spot but after few month getting ssn and having 50k+ paying job, it is piece of cake getting credit card and building good credit.

Warning: Anything you or your parents do affects both parties until you are removed as an authorized user.

The assumption the OP is making is that all of our parents have credit cards, which might not be true in most cases.

just got the card and it says the credit score is 735. I am telling you guys, best way to get good credit fast is ask your good friends to add you onto their credit account if they have good credit. yes, their credit history can reflect your score. but having mediocre credit score is better than not having one. my dad's credit score nothing fancy, 680 or something. however, my girl friend has 750+ and i think that has helped a lot. if you have not done research, median score for credit score is 711, which means 50 percent of the population has score above that. i am sure you can find someone who can help you.

The only fallacy with this is your assumption that everybody will be willing to add us to their credit accounts, whether it's family or friends. It sounds wrong, but I personally wouldn't do this for anybody, and I'm sure many others won't either (without counting that most parents don't have credit either).

everyones credit score is good, the trick is maintaining that good score.

If you guys have zero credit, I suggest you go to your bank, desposit a certain amount, then ask for a credit account for the amount you put in, using what you put in as collateral. Do this with 2 or so banks.

"hey I have 2000 dollars with me, Id like to despot them in a savings account, I also liked to open a credit card account and ask for 2000, and I like to use the 2000 I just put in as collateral"

then take this credit, and go place it in another bank, doing the same thing

well, they dont have to give you the card. they can just hold on to them and just put the name under them. I dont see anything wrong with it when you are good friends with them. if you dont want this suggestion, then dont follow. it is not fallacy, it actually works.

being an authorized user will reflect on your score in a couple of months. Checking accounts have absolutely nothing to do with your credit, so the second part of your advise isnt relevant, even if you got the credit card from citi. Citi credit cards wont care of you have a checking account with citibank.

If I were you, apply to another card and then remove your name from the cards that you are an authorized user. Then when you do, check your credit two months later to make sure it is not still showing up. If you are, call each bureau and ask instructions on how to remove each entry. If any of those accounts get in trouble, you will not be able to remove them.

The whole thing is...it isn't easy. The whole thing about putting money in an account as 'collateral' is your best bet.
