i've had my car for about a week and my dealer called yesterday telling me that my bank did not accept my ssn for financing

and that in order to still have my car, the co-signer would have to be the owner of the vehicle...

( which means that she would be responsible for the car, meaning if i get in an accident her insurance rate will go up...)

*Has this happened to anyone else who purchased a car from a dealership???????? i was so excited about having a new car but now i might have to just return it... man i really feel hopeless and sad

Did you have credit before under an ITIN? Did the credit history transfer under your new SSN?

It seems that it may have been that the banks declined to finance the vehicle because you did not have a credit history which is more often than so the case.

I always thought they check to see if you can finance your car BEFORE they give you a car. Something is wrong with that.

If it makes you feel better, the dealership will lose more money on this since the salesman loses his commission and they have to get a car that has extra miles back on it. Think of it as getting a free rental for a week.
